Have your say on the safe use of e-scooters and e-bikes

Friday 26 June 2026

South Australians are invited to have their say on how e‑scooters and other personal mobility devices (PMD) and e-bikes are used on our roads and paths.

The Department for Infrastructure and Transport (the Department) is reviewing the current laws to ensure they support safe, responsible use for all road users.

When used responsibly, these devices offer a convenient and affordable way to travel and reduce reliance on cars. As their use continues to grow, it’s important the laws remain clear, practical and focused on safety.

Personal Mobility Devices

Feedback is being sought on the laws for:

  • e‑scooters
  • e‑skateboards
  • other similar devices.

This includes how they are used on public roads and paths, both privately owned and shared devices.

Read the discussion paper and complete the survey for e‑scooters, e‑skateboards and other PMDs.

E‑bikes

Feedback is also being sought on the current framework for power‑assisted bicycles (e‑bikes).

In addition to general use, the Department is seeking community views on:

  • how non‑compliant devices should be treated
  • whether they should remain prohibited for road use or be regulated under another vehicle class, such as mopeds or motorcycles.

Your feedback will:

  • help determine whether the current regulations are working or if changes are needed to improve safety, usability and enforceability
  • help shape a safer future for all road users.

Have your say

Read the discussion paper and complete the survey.

The survey will close on Sunday 16 August 2026.
