THINK! Road Safety during the Santos Tour Down Under
Friday, 17 January 2020
The Government of South Australia through the Think! Road Safety initiative is supporting the Santos Tour Down Under in 2020.
To signify the tour’s impending arrival, a giant inflatable ‘Think! Road Safety’ bike has been installed in Victoria Square to remind and encourage all road users to remain vigilant and think about their behaviours while on the road and their responsibilities in sharing the road, making smart decisions and adopting safer behaviours.
The appearance of the 15m high by 38m long inflatable bike is a familiar reminder to the South Australian cycling community that the ‘big event’ is not far off.
The Tour Down Under also marks the start of the Be Safe Be Seen campaign to raise awareness and to remind cyclists about their responsibility to road safety.
During the event, drivers are asked to be aware of riders and pedestrians when changing lanes, turning into a side street, or pulling out into traffic, and to be patient when approaching riders from behind. This is especially important in the city and around race stages, where there will be large crowds enjoying the race.
